…has a great post on the new book Hardball: Are You Playing to Play or Playing to Win? Tom is not impressed. I read the HBR article on this a couple of months ago and had a similar reaction – the hardball strategies aren’t really anything new and in some ways seem misguided for a company’s long term success. There is no focus on recruiting (getting the right people on the bus), developing people, innovating or taking care of the customer. Hardball strategies may be successful short-term, but seem misguided as the underlying growth strategy of a firm.
