Two Democrat Senate Hopefuls Bail On EFCA!

by | Oct 13, 2010 | Employee Free Choice Act

Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado and Governor Joe Manchin who is running for the open West Virgina seat recently  announced they do not support the anti-jobs Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). After a year of Senator Bennet expressing his opinion that EFCA would make it easier for unions to organize, he now says he “would not support the language in that bill.” When Manchin was asked about his view on EFCA he responded by stating : “We must retain the secrecy of the ballot. It’s your vote, and only you should have knowledge of how you do that,” and “Government has no right to be involved in contractual disputes between an organizing body and the company they are working with.” Some pundits explain the move by these contenders as a way to distance themselves from Obama. It remains to be seen what tack the candidates will take if they make it past the November elections, and find themselves in a full-court-press lame duck session.
