Direct Persuasion
Personal, persuasive, and relevant interaction with your workforce will defeat the union. On-site Persuaders make the realities and dangers of union representation vividly real for employees. These highly specialized consultants are federally registered and typically are former union organizers and union officials—even former NLRB staff. They speak with authority and authenticity that gain the attention and respect of your voters. Our Persuaders work directly with both in-house and outside counsel.
LRI’s philosophy on direct persuading is that our role is to educate employees on the facts about unions so that they can make their own independent and well-considered decision about this important issue in their work lives. The direct persuader will engage the employees on the subject of the union authorization card. They will educate them on basic information such as: what is a union authorization card, what does it mean to sign a union authorization card, what are the misconceptions about union authorization cards, etc.
In order to establish and maintain credibility with employees we treat them with respect and as adults. We encourage them to challenge us (and to challenge the union organizers) in an effort to get all the information they need to make an educated decision. We strive to take the “high road” in every campaign situation. We do not “bash” the union in these meetings, although we will point out instances where they have misled employees or communicated non-factual information. The union will view direct persuading as a threat to their effort of organizing employees, but we make every effort to reassure employees that our purpose is not to “bust” the union, but to make sure that they can make a good choice.
The LRI Persuader deployed to your campaign will be the right fit for your workforce. Former union affiliation—as well as issues of culture, language, and industry—are all considered when you and the Labor Relations Institute make the critical decision of which and how many Persuaders are needed to assure victory.
