Teamsters Revive Old Tactic

Sympathy strikes were expressly curbed by the 1947 Taft-Hartley Act, and strikers are only allowed to picket other facilities owned by their company. The Teamsters have numerous contracts across the country with food services giant U.S. Foods, and thus far, of the 4,000 Teamsters that work at 25 of the company’s distribution centers, 1800 workers in seven states have so far joined in the sympathy action, with workers in more states threatening . The strike began in Streator, IL, by a maintenance department, and has spread like ripples on a pond from there.
