SEIU “Member Organizers” Reveal Tactics on Video

by | Jun 21, 2010 | News, YouTube

Check out this YouTube video called SEIU Member Organizers Make A Difference. [flashvideo provider=youtube file=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rv_Y-KZM_DE&feature=player_embedded# /] A couple of interesting things to notice about this video and how organizers are trained. First, notice in the background of the video, where it says “moving 3’s.” Those are the tactics being trained to these member organizers to pressure undecided voters to sign a union card. Second, think about why a video like this would be considered necessary. Who is the intended audience? The workers who are being “pitched” (see, we really do care and we believe all that stuff we’re telling you)? Other potential member organizers (see, this is how great “member organizing” is – you should try it too)? Or the people on the videos themselves (to reinforce their decision to become a “member organizer” – typically an unpaid volunteer position, with the promise that if you do good you might one day get on the SEIU gravy train). It is an interesting look into the organizing strategies of SEIU. If you are a target of this union you should pay close attention to these persuasion tactics.
