More that 10 years ago I started a consulting intervention called The Next 52 Weeks. These interventions were intense but highly successful. It was very rewarding, but I could only work with a few clients at a time. Then I wrote a book with the same title, to try to “get the word out.” I’ve sold box-loads of that book, but other than the occasional call from someone thanking me for writing the book I never really knew whether it was being used or just sitting on the shelf.

Last year I completely changed the work I do with clients from one-on-one work to group work. I originally transitioned to group work because, after ten years of working with individual clients, I was frustrated by what I saw as a fundamental flaw in the traditional “consultant/client” relationship. I also didn’t know if working with groups (by webinar) would really work.

I’ve had a very successful consulting career with companies in virtually every industry facing all kinds of different problems. While most of my clients achieved terrific results in transforming their environment, a few didn’t. While I’ve never had one company go through my program and later get unionized, some companies didn’t really see an improvement in the employee relations environment. Those “failures” really bothered me.

The more I thought about these few cases the more I realized that the problem was not the intervention (after all, the same things had worked many times before) but instead was that the client simply thought that the act of hiring a consultant meant that the employee relations concern could be crossed off the “to-do” list. If only it were that simple.

I realized there was a better model – the model of a support group of peers, facilitated by me, who could serve as a sort of “Mastermind” to help each other solve employee relations challenges together. The magic of this model comes with the peer interaction (and let’s face it, peer pressure) to follow through on projects and keep accountable to the ultimate goal of transforming an employee relations environment.

Every Next 52 Weeks Results Group Member Starts with Our RS2 Pulse Engagement Survey

Your program begins with our proprietary RS2 Pulse Survey. This Employee Engagement Survey will identify issues we will work on over the year and give me a quick way to assess your overall vulnerability. This is what we sometimes call our “80/20″ Survey, referring to the Pareto Principle in that we ask the 16 questions that have proven over the years to have the greatest impact on a positive work environment.

Next, we conduct 24 webinars each year (2 webinars per month). The first call each month is with you and the other peers in your Results Group. The second call each month is for the managers and supervisors in your company (of course you are encouraged to participate in these calls as well) where we cover one positive leadership topic for that month.

Summary of The Next 52 Weeks Process

At the heart of this program are the two ninety-minute group coaching webinars each month. We use a webinar format that you can access from anywhere (we also record each webinar, so you can listen to them on your schedule on your iPod). Each call will include “hot seat” opportunities where your individual issues can be addressed, your questions will be answered and you’ll get the support you need.

Groups will also divide into sub-groups where you’ll interact and give support to each other. Between each session you’ll send in a report, plan or materials you’re working on to me. In the sessions I’ll give you feedback, ideas, resources and support to help you take things to the next level. In addition, you’ll get homework and assignments and you’ll make a promise for what you’ll work on between sessions. In other words, I’ll consistently ask you to “take things to the next level” and keep moving forward.

In addition, you also get the following:

  • The Next 52 WeeksThis book forms the foundation of developing an effective employee relations program. It includes specific work on developing goals and plans and working with barriers to putting your employee relations plans into action. Not sure if this program is for you? Start by reading the book.
  • “RS2 Pulse” Employee Engagement Surveys – You start with a RS2 Pulse Engagement Surveys that help us quickly identify vulnerabilities, action items and points of strength we can leverage to make dramatic improvement in your employee relations environment.   • Employee Communication Templates – You will receive regular templates for letters, handouts, pay-stuffers and other communication tools that you can use as-is or modify for your specific purposes.

In Active Interval training you learn in “bite-sized” chunks, alternating between entertaining content, experiential exercises and action planning where you immediately use the concepts learned.   • All webinars are recorded and available online – They will be posted soon after each webinar session so that you can review it or listen if you missed the session.
  • Progress reporting system – This is the heart of the group and why we get such good results. Before each session you’ll report to me and other participants what you’ve accomplished between sessions and what you plan to do in the upcoming weeks.
