Harry Kelber is a stalwart for union democracy (not that long ago he was kicked out of the CWA after decades of membership because of his criticism of their undemocratic “corporatization”). He is a labor educator and has written numerous books on union democracy. I came across his website more than a year ago while doing some work on LM-2 reform. I discovered that Harry also has a blog. Although we approach union democracy from different spots on the ideological map, l really respect his ideas on the subject. He recently wrote a series of articles on “corporate unionism,” including the New Unity Partnership idea. He and I see this trend toward increased centralization of labor unions as bad for union members and the opposite direction of where they need to go. It is well worth reading.
