“Becker” Inevitable?

by | Nov 10, 2009 | Uncategorized

beckerRichard Epstein has a great post today at Forbes about the “tussle” over Craig Becker, and the make-up of the National Labor Relations Board. He points us to the reality of the current political situation in relation to the composition of the board: it will end up being tilted in favor of unions, no matter the amount of bluff and noise the Republicans make. The board is a political animal by definition. Epstein makes the point that no matter what occurs after any hearnings (McCain placed a hold on the Becker appointment – the Dems could parry in-kind by holding up the Repubilcan appointee…), at the end of the day there will be two Republicans, two Democrats, and a chair appointed by Obama (Liebman – obviously Democrat). The board will eventually end up being a Big Labor friendly board, Becker or no Becker. How difficult do you think it will be to find another replacement for Becker that holds views just as radical as his, albeit less well publicized?
